Obituary for Ernest M. "Ernie" Waxbom Jr.
Ernest M. "Ernie" Waxbom, Jr., age 86 of Plum, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, the late Janet Marie (Hess) Waxbom. They were married on May 13, 1961. He was also preceded in death by their beloved daughter, the late Tamara "Tami" Marie Fiumara (John). He is survived by his son Eric Jon Waxbom and his grandchildren Nicholas Anthony Fiumara and Carla Marie Fiumara. Also surviving is his brother Carl "Bill" William (Theona) Waxbom. Ernie graduated from Westchester, PA High School in 1949, earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Drexel University in 1954 and a master's degree in divinity from Mt. Airy Seminary. He was ordained a Lutheran minister in 1957. Ernie served as a full-time minister for 13 years and continued his ministry by preaching and spreading the Word of Our Lord Jesus Christ for the rest of his life. He was very devout in his faith and touched many people. One of his favorite phrases was, "Hold the fort--keep the faith." Ernie also sold life insurance to ministers and their families and was a fund raiser for two Lutheran homes. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution for cancer research. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at MAURICE L. KNEE, LTD. FUNERAL HOME, 7663 Saltsburg Rd. (across from S & T Bank) Plum, PA 15239. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Christ's Lutheran Church, 5330 Old Logan Ferry Rd., Murrysville, PA 15668. Everyone please gather at the church. Interment will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery.
