Obituary for Dorothy L. Cherok (Yanicko)

Dorothy L. (Yanicko) Cherok, age 86 of Penn Hills, was called to eternal life on May 4, 2015 at her home
surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born May 11, 1928 in North Bessemer, Penn Hills to the late
Frank T. and Anna M. (Petrisak) Yanicko, where she has lived all of her life. She was a lifelong member of
St. John the Baptist R. C. Church, Plum and a 1946 graduate of Penn Hills High School. Dorothy received
her Registered Nurse degree from the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She worked as an
Operating Room Supervisor for over 30 years. A member of the Pittsburgh Hospital Alumni Association and
the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. Dorothy enjoyed most spending time with her loving husband
and family, traveling and cooking traditional Slovak foods at the holidays. Survivors include her loving
husband of 64 years Andrew P. Cherok, Jr., children Kathy (Ronald) Skornicka, Dennis (Suzanne) Cherok,
Maureen (Glenn) Lackey and Maribeth (Shane) Chessey, grandchildren Denise (David) Volkov, Bryan
(Andrea) Skornicka, Holly (Paul) Hundley, Phillip Cherok and Michael Chessey, her sister and best friend
Marlene (Robert) Lepovsky and was loved and will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and their
children. The family wants to thank all Dorothy's doctors, nurses, Shadyside Hospital, Seneca Place, St.
Margaret's Hospital and Vitas Hospice for all her exceptional care. Besides her parents, she was preceded in
death by her grandson, Colby A. Chessey, her sister Rita D. Yanicko and her brother Daniel R. Yanicko, Sr.
Friends received Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at MAURICE L. KNEE, LTD. FUNERAL HOME 7663
Saltsburg Rd. (across from S & T Bank) Plum, PA 15239, where parting prayers will be conducted Friday
9:30 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church. She will be
laid to rest in Plum Creek Cemetery. Her arrangements were entrusted to her nephew William A. Yanicko,
